The foundation and the clinic have helped 24 amputees in the last 6 months
A local prosthetic clinic and an international charity have teamed to provide free prosthetic limbs for San Antonio amputees.MK Prosthetic and Orthotic Services, which has three clinics in the San Antonio area, and Limbs for Life Foundation are making sure amputees in San Antonio are receiving the adequate prosthetic care they desperately need. The clinic donates its time and the foundation pays for the prosthetic limb.
Since February 2009, 24 amputees have received a new lease on life thanks to the two organizations. That number continues to rise each week.
“Our partnership with Limbs for Life allows us to help people regain their independence and reclaim their lives,” said Mark Kirchner, founder of MK Prosthetic . “We can’t thank Limbs for Life enough.”
Limbs for Life is a non-profit organization that works globally to provide prosthetic limbs for amputees that otherwise would go without and raise awareness of the challenges facing amputees. The foundation helps amputees in the United States who can't afford prosthesis or are without insurance by buying them a new prosthetic limb.
“I’m thrilled we’ve been able to work with MK Prosthetics to help so many amputees in the San Antonio area,” said Craig Gavras, executive director for Limbs for Life. “This is a strong partnership that will continue to provide a much-needed service to that area.”
Amputees who need assistance through Limbs for Life can obtain an application at any of MK Prosthetic's clinics, online at www.limbsforlife.org or by calling the Limbs for Life office toll-free at 888-235-LIMB.
Limbs for Life is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. It was co-founded in 1995 by Gavras, who after losing a limb realized the need to help less-fortunate amputees. The foundation provides financial assistance to hundreds of amputees a year in the United States. It also collected used limbs for distribution in developing countries such as the Dominican Republic, Turkey and countries in Africa.
