An Important Message from Executive Director Craig Gavras

A statement from Limbs for Life Executive Director Craig Gavras:

"In 1993, my right leg had to be amputated above the knee as a result of an accident I suffered while as a cadet in training for the Dallas Police Department.

"Over the past several years, many news outlets have reported I was injured while on duty as a Dallas police officer. This is not accurate.

"The story perpetuated because I did not correct those who reported it as fact. If anyone feels they were misled as a result of this, that was not my intent. I apologize to my family and our board of directors, donors, recipients, volunteers, supporters and anyone who feels misled by my actions.

"The focus of the Limbs for Life Foundation has always been on the hundreds of amputees we've helped receive the prosthetic care they need. I hope that will not change as a result of this issue."

"We fully support Craig Gavras' excellent work to support the amputee community over the last 15 years. We will continue to work to improve the lives of amputees world-wide."
